From June 8th to 16th, Rosmalen will once again be all about tennis. The Libéma Open is just around the corner! After Tim van Rijthoven took the overall victory in 2022 and Tallon Griekspoor won the Libéma Open last year, the question is whether one of the Dutch tennis players will emerge victorious again this year. We know for sure that it won't be an easy task: the Libéma Open organizers have once again managed to secure several big names this year. Among the participants in the men's tournament in Rosmalen are Alex de Minaur (ATP-9), Tommy Paul (ATP-13), and Ugo Humbert (ATP-16). The women's field includes Jessica Pegula (WTA-5), defending champion Ekatarina Alexandrova, and former world number one Naomi Osaka.
Can Tallon Griekspoor defend his Libéma Open title?
It was one of the biggest days of Griekspoor's career: the 2023 Rosmalen final, where he defeated his Australian opponent, Jordan Thompson, to win his first ATP title in the Netherlands. Our compatriot will undoubtedly want to repeat that feat this year. Griekspoor is one of four Dutch tennis players in the main draw of the men's Libéma Open. Botic van de Zandschulp, Van Rijthoven, and Gijs Brouwer are the other Dutch players. Speaking of Dutch players: "we" are also well represented in the women's event this year. Besides Arantxa Rus, Suzan Lamens and Eva Vedder are also part of the lineup .
Medvedev forced to withdraw due to injury
Griekspoor, Alexandrova, and Van Rijthoven aren't the only former Libéma Open winners returning to the tennis scene in Rosmalen this year. Adrian Mannarino (2019 winner) and Roberto Bautista-Agut (2014 winner) are also represented. Other big names on the entry list that shouldn't be left unmentioned are Karen Khachanov (ATP-22) and Sebastian Korda (ATP-26) in the men's event, and Liudmila Samsonova (WTA-15) and Elise Mertens (WTA-30) in the women's event. Daniil Medvedev, world number five and former Libéma Open finalist, was initially also on the entry list but was forced to withdraw due to injury. However, he immediately promised to return to the tennis scene in Rosmalen next year.
Libéma Open prize money
The Libéma Open isn't just an attractive pre-Wimbledon tournament for players: the prize money is also a great reason to travel to Rosmalen. Compared to the previous edition, the prize money has increased by 2.5%, resulting in a prize pool of €690,135 for the men's tournament, while the women's tournament has to settle for €232,244. The Libéma Open prize money for the men's winner is a whopping €104,985, and the women's winner can pocket €30,650. The losing men's and women's finalists receive €61,235 and €18,110, respectively. If you don't make it through the first round of the Libéma, you can still earn €7,400 (men) or €2,512 (women).
