Padel is hot. More and more people are testing whether the sport is right for them, and chances are you'll be doing the same in the near future. Padel courts are being built at a rapid pace throughout the country, and the figures show that padel is growing rapidly—even in the Netherlands. But what is a padel court? What's a good padel racket, and what shoes are best for padel court play? Sjeng Sports will answer these questions and more in this article, so you'll be fully prepared to start playing padel!
What is a padel court?
First, let's take a closer look at the padel court. What exactly is a padel court and what are its dimensions, for example? A padel court is essentially similar to a tennis court. The court consists of two halves, separated by a net, each containing two service boxes and a back court. Unlike a tennis court, a padel court is relatively small, measuring ten meters wide and twenty meters long. Another major difference between a tennis court and a padel court is the fencing. A padel court is surrounded by a glass wall and fencing, both of which are essentially part of the game. Are you starting to play padel? Then find out beforehand if there's a padel court nearby where you can start playing. Practice, practice, practice...
Which padel racket should I buy?
As mentioned above, comparisons are often made between tennis and padel. However, padel is a completely different sport. For example, you need a real padel racket to ensure you dominate the padel court. We can already hear you thinking: what's a good padel racket, and which one should I buy? That depends on personal preference. There are different brands of padel rackets, and you can also choose a padel racket with a round, teardrop, or diamond shape. We therefore recommend visiting a store—and perhaps practicing for a bit—to see which one suits you best. While you're in the store, also see if you can find good padel balls! Padel balls may look similar to tennis balls, but there's a significant difference. Therefore, it's advisable to make sure you have real padel balls.
What shoes do I need on the padel court?
Another valid question is what kind of shoes you need for padel. At first glance, padel shoes look a lot like tennis shoes, but once you really start playing padel passionately, we recommend buying real padel shoes. Why? It has to do with grip and support. This is even more essential on a padel court than on a tennis court. A padel court is relatively small, the game is a bit faster, and you therefore need to be more agile than in tennis. You're expected to make a lot of short turns and quick accelerations, so it's important that your shoes have good grip and support. Another reason why you need good grip is that a padel court is covered in more sand than a tennis court, making it somewhat slippery. Padel shoes, which typically have deeper grooves in the sole than tennis shoes, are therefore ideal for this.
Don't forget: stock up on comfortable padel clothing!
Last but not least: the clothing! If you're going to play padel and have the padel balls, shoes, and racket, it's also important to stock up on padel clothing. At Sjeng Sports, you've come to the right place to find a padel outfit that will make you shine on the court.
