You're expected to make a lot of short turns and quick accelerations, so it's important that your shoes have good grip and support. Another reason why you need good grip is that a padel court is covered in more sand than a tennis court, making it somewhat slippery. Padel shoes, which typically have deeper grooves in the sole than tennis shoes, are therefore ideal for this.
