1. Aryna Sabalenka

With four titles, almost ten million dollars in prize money and a top ranking on the WTA Ranking, 2024 is a more than excellent year for Aryna Sabalenka . The Belarusian (26) had to wait a long time for Iga Swiatek had to tolerate being ahead of her in the rankings, but she has now managed to overtake her. This was partly due to the major victories she achieved this year , including at Grand Slams . She performed particularly well on hard courts: she won the Grand Slam tournaments Australian Open and US Open and also topped the rankings in Cincinnati and Wuhan.

2. Iga Swiatek

It will take some getting used to for the 23-year-old Šwiatek . For the first time in a while, she's no longer at the top of the WTA Ranking. Still, it's not to say she hasn't had a good year: the Polish player has won five titles and $8.5 million in prize money, losing only nine of the seventy matches she played. Šwiatek won in Doha, Indian Wells, Madrid, and Rome, and also captured the title at Roland Garros . At the other Grand Slams, the Polish player fared less well: she was eliminated in the third round at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

3. Coco Gauff

You might not think so because she has been around for a while, but despite that, Coco Gauff Still only twenty years old . That makes it all the more impressive that she's been in the world's top ten for three years running. This year, the American finishes third in the WTA Ranking, and her WTA Finals victory played a major role in that. The young Gauff also raked in a lot of prize money with her victory in Beijing, and she also topped the rankings in Auckland, New Zealand. Will Gauff ever become the undisputed leader of the WTA rankings? Time will tell!

4. Jasmine Paolini

Until last year, Jasmine Paolini was still a relatively unknown tennis player. That has changed since this year. The petite Italian has established herself among the world's top five and is consistently among the outsiders for the title at major tournaments this year. She achieved this entirely on her own, reaching the finals of both Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Although she lost both finals, her name was certainly established among tennis's elite. In February , Paolini also earned praise for winning the well-attended tournament in Dubai. In the final, she defeated Anna Kalinskaya in three sets.

5. Qinwen Zheng

Speaking of successful years: Qin w and Zheng . The absolute highlight of Zheng 's tennis year was, of course, the gold medal she won at the London Olympics, but it didn't stop there. Zheng also excelled on the clay courts of Palermo and the hard courts of Tokyo, earning her a spot in the top five of the WTA Ranking. There's undoubtedly more in store for the 22-year-old Zheng , who has lost only eighteen of her seventy matches. The prize money Zheng earned this year with the WTA: over $5.5 million!

6. Elena Rybakina

For Elena Rybakina, 2024 was a year of ups and downs. The Kazakh player won three tournaments—Brisbane, Abu Dhabi, and Stuttgart—but also struggled with injuries. As a result, she played "only" 54 matches, had to withdraw from the US Open, and skipped all tournaments in September and October. She also missed the London Olympics due to injury. Rybakina did reach the semifinals at Wimbledon, where she was defeated by the eventual winner, Barbora Krejcikova . If everything goes well for Rybakina regarding injuries , she is expected to climb a few spots in the world rankings next year.

7. Jessica Pegula

The summer months were the absolute peak months for American Jessica Pegula this year . In June, she won the Berlin tournament and in August, she won the Toronto tournament. The veteran also reached the final of the US Open, where she lost to Sabalenka . She was also defeated by the Belarusian in the final of the Cincinnati tournament, preceding the US Open. It made it clear that Pegula (30 years old) is far from done with tennis, and her seventh-place ranking in the WTA rankings is proof of that.

8. Emma Navarro

There she was, suddenly. The still young Emma Navarro made a splash in 2024 and rose from 32nd place in 2023 to the current eighth place in the WTA Ranking. Navarro (23) managed to win the Hobart tournament at the beginning of the year and from that moment on she was in the mood. Almost everywhere Navarro played, she managed to win the necessary matches, especially at the Grand Slams. She made waves with a round of 16 appearance at Roland Garros , a quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon, and a semifinal appearance at the US Open. We'll undoubtedly be hearing a lot more from her!

9. Daria Kasatkina

After a somewhat less successful tennis year in 2023, Daria Kasatkina re-entered the top ten of the WTA Ranking. This was partly due to two titles: the Russian won the grass court tournament in Ea Stbourne and also lifted the trophy in Ningbo , China . The 27-year-old Kasatkina also reached the final of the clay court tournament in Charleston and also appeared, unsuccessfully, in the finals of Adelaide, Seoul, and Abu Dhabi.

10. Barbora Krejcikova

Who thinks of Barbora Kerjcikova, in 2024, undoubtedly has only one thing on her mind. Although the Czech player hasn't had a particularly stellar season, she did win Wimbledon. This victory came almost out of nowhere, as of the six tournaments she played prior to Wimbledon, she was eliminated in the first round five times. It's all the more impressive that she defeated the likes of Danielle Collins, Jelena Ostapenko , and Elena Rybakina in London, only to finish the job against Paolini in the final . This Grand Slam victory is therefore a major factor in Krejcikova's tenth-place ranking in the WTA rankings.
