From Martina Navratilova to Serena Williams and from Steffi Graf to Ashleigh Barty: they're all giants of the female tennis world, and if we were to count the total number of Grand Slams these women have won, we'd be counting for quite a while. But even now, there are certainly a number of women who can hit more than just a decent ball, so we're happy to present the top 15 female tennis players of 2023! Who currently holds a spot in the global top ten, and who currently tops the list of "best female tennis players in 2023"? Read on!

In fifteenth and fourteenth place, we find two 26-year-olds , Belinda Bencic and Vernonika Kudermetova, respectively. Both tennis players have previously been in the world's top five, but are now slightly lower in the top 15 female tennis players of 2023. They are just below Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia (13), who in turn is ahead of Czech Republic's Barbora Krejcikova (12) and Daria Kasatkina (11) in the WTA rankings.

10 – Marketa Vondrousova

With her spectacular victory at Wimbledon, Marketa Vondrousova has suddenly established herself in the world's top ten. Before Wimbledon 2023, the Czech was ranked 42nd in the WTA Ranking, but the successful tournament has propelled her up a whopping 32 spots. Incidentally, this wasn't the 24-year-old Vondrousova's very first title. In 2017, she had already won the title in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland.

9 – Maria Sakkari

Maria Sakkari has been at the top for quite a few years, but she's just not been able to add to her list of achievements. The Greek player did win a WTA tournament in Rabat, Morocco, in 2019 – defeating Johanna Konta in the final – but the 27-year-old Sakkari hasn't yet achieved more. However, she did manage to reach the world number three in 2022.

8 – Petra Kvitova

Petra Kvitova is undoubtedly the most experienced woman on this list. Despite her 33 years, she still ranks eighth on the list of the best women's tennis players in 2023. It's already clear that she can win Czech titles, as Kvitova has a record of 31 victories to date. In 2011 and 2014, she even topped Wimbledon.

7 – Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff isn't even 33 yet. In fact, the American is still only nineteen! Gauff is considered a true natural talent, and despite her age, she's been in the world's top ten for several years now. In 2022, she even reached the finals at Roland Garros in both the singles and doubles, though she lost both. Yet, she's already won three WTA titles, most recently in 2023 on the hard courts of Auckland. It's no wonder, then, that Gauff is among the best women's tennis players in 2023, and it seems like she's just waiting for her first Grand Slam title.

6 – Our Jabeur

Ons Jabeur , who has previously been ranked second in the WTA rankings, is the highest-ranked African and Arab tennis player in WTA history. The 28-year-old Tunisian has reached three Grand Slam finals but has yet to win the title at one of the world's four major tournaments. In 2022, she failed to win the final at both Wimbledon (against Rybakina) and the US Open (against Swiatek), and her opponent also defeated her in the 2023 Wimbledon final . She has, however, already won four WTA titles, the biggest of which was the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid.

5 – Caroline Garcia

2022 can certainly be described as Caroline Garcia 's year. The French player won tournaments in Bad Homburg, Warsaw, and Cincinnati, and at the end of the year also claimed victory at the WTA Finals, defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final. In total, Garcia has already won eleven WTA singles titles and seven doubles titles during her professional career. Partnering with Kristina Mladenovic, she has also won the women's doubles title at Roland Garros twice.

4 – Jessica Pegula

Jessica Pegula is a unique story. The American is 29 at the time of writing, but didn't burst into the top 20 of the WTA rankings until she was 27. In fact, before 2018, she wasn't even ranked among the top 150 women in the world. Now, Pegula is an indispensable part of the world elite, having already won two individual titles in Washington and Guadalajara. She has also won several doubles titles, five of which are coming in 2022.

3 – Elena Rybakina

At number three on the list is Elena Rybakina . The Kazakh is only 24 years old, yet has been in the world's top twenty since 2020. Rybakina's absolute peak came in 2022, when she lifted the trophy at Wimbledon. In early 2023, she also reached the Australian Open final, where she lost in three sets to Aryna Sabalenka. If Rybakina can maintain this level of performance, many more WTA titles will undoubtedly follow. In 2023, she already has two: Rybakina was the winner at the Indian Wells and Rome tournaments.

2 – Aryna Sabalenka

Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka entered the top fifteen of the WTA rankings in 2018 – she is only 25 years old – and has remained there ever since. However, it took until 2023 for Sabalenka to secure her first Grand Slam title . At the Australian Open earlier this year, she defeated Elena Rybakina in three sets in the final. However, it was already clear that Sabalenka is a guaranteed winner. She has already won twelve WTA titles in her career.

1 - Iga Swiatek

She's only 22, but she already has more than two handfuls of titles under her belt. Iga Światek has been a household name for several years now. She's already won four Grand Slam titles (three at Roland Garros and one at the US Open) and has continued to excel in 2023, including victories in Doha, Stuttgart, and Roland Garros. The best year of the Polish woman's career so far was 2022, when she not only won two Grand Slam titles but also four WTA 1000 titles. If Światek continues at this pace, she's likely to remain the world number one for a long time to come.
