A tennis coach: they're usually not very visible, and you don't hear much about them, but they are indeed important. A tennis coach—or tennis coach, depending on your preference—not only guides tennis players technically and tactically, but also helps them stay mentally fresh and healthy. Because they're not often seen and therefore often not well-known, many tennis fans won't readily know which tennis coach is successful and which isn't. Therefore, Sjeng Sports provides an answer below to the question of which tennis coaches are (or have been) the most successful, both currently and recently.

Paul Annacone

Paul Annacone has been a tennis coach since 1995 and, among other things, coached Roger Federer for three years. The American himself once reached the twelfth-place ranking, and he has achieved the same feat with Taylor Fritz, his compatriot, whom he currently coaches. Under Annacone's guidance, Fritz has managed to storm the world top ten and win several ATP title titles.

Gilles Cervara

Gilles Cervara is a striking figure who has been working full-time with Daniil Medvedev since 2017. Under the Frenchman's inspiring guidance, Medvedev has already reached the top spot in the ATP rankings, and the Russian is currently winning title after title. Cervara has also received recognition for his work: his colleagues named him Coach of the Year at the 2019 ATP Awards.

Toni Nadal

When you think of Toni Nadal, there's probably one name that immediately comes to mind: Rafael Nadal. Toni Nadal is Rafael's uncle and, from the age of three, guided him straight to the top. Under Toni's guidance, nephew Rafael won all four Grand Slam tournaments multiple times and also won gold at the Olympic Games. Currently, Nadal has another major talent under his wing. Since 2021, he has been the tennis coach of the Canadian talent Felix Auger-Aliassime .

Jose Perlas

Spaniard Jose Perlas currently coaches Dusan Lajovic, but he has coached many other big names in the past. He guided Carlos Moya to the number one position in the ATP rankings, Albert Costa won Roland Garros under his guidance, and coached Spain twice in Davis Cup victories. He also coached players like Nicolas Almagro and Guillermo Coria, and mentored other players such as Juan Carlos Ferrero, Fabio Fognini, and Janko Tipsarevic.

Goran Ivanisevic

Goran Ivanisevic is probably familiar to most people as the tennis coach who has been working successfully with Novak Djokovic, the current world number one , since 2019. However, besides Djokovic, he has also coached several other major players. He worked with Tomas Berdych, Milos Raonic, and Marin Cilic also benefited from Ivanisevic's support. In fact, under his guidance, Cilic won his only Grand Slam to date, the US Open, in 2014.

Patrick Mouratoglou

Frenchman Patrick Mouratoglou began his career as Marcos Baghdatis's tennis coach, helping him reach the Australian Open final and a spot in the world's top ten. He then coached Yanina Wickmayer, Jeremy Chardy, and Grigor Dimitrov, among others, before becoming Serena Williams's tennis coach, guiding the American to countless trophies. Currently, he and Team Mouratoglou are dedicated to developing top talent, working with stars such as Stefanos Tsitsipas and Coco Gauff.

David Taylor

Ana Ivanovic, Sam Stosur, Madison Keys, Jelena Ostapenko, Elise Mertens, and Naomi Osaka: just a few of the players tennis coach David Taylor has coached. Most of the players he coached were also very successful. Under his guidance, six of his players reached the world's top fifteen, and the tennis coach even helped two players, including Stosur (from 127th to 4th place) and Alicia Molik, climb into the world's top ten. Moreover, in 2011, Stosur became the first Australian woman in thirty years to win a Grand Slam, and Taylor also coached the Australian team at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games.

Juan Carlos Ferrero

Many people will know Juan Carlos Ferrero primarily for his successful tennis career from 1999 to 2012. However, since 2017, the Spaniard has also been a tennis coach, a role the 43-year-old has played with considerable success. Ferrero coached Alexander Zverev for a year, and he is currently the coach of superstar Carlos Alcaraz, who, on September 12, 2022, at the age of 19, became the youngest tennis player ever to be ranked world number one. Under Ferrero's guidance, Alcaraz also won his first career Grand Slam at the US Open.
